Contest Winners
Kathryn Smith is a finalist for the 2017 Southern Book Prize. The finalist titles will be sent to juried panels of booksellers, who will then decide on the winners in each category. Winners will be announced on July 4.
Carlene Shuler Brown won 7th place in the Inspirational category of the 2016 Annual Writers Digest Writing Competition for her short story, "Why Should I pray for her?"
Congratulations to Ginny McKinney. Her poem entry, "Caught", was chosen from among 6 anonymous entries in the First Draft Society's April Poetry Challenge. The winning poem will be featured in the FDS books, "Inklings" (spring), "Wing Makers" (fall), and the FWG 2018 Yearbook.
First Draft Society's "Seeds of Greatness" Challenge submissions by new FDS writers were judged anonymously by Kathryn Smith. Kathryn is an editor for Anderson Magazine, the book reviewer for the Independent Mail, and has written three books. Here she presents the FDS Airborne Award for new writers to Greg McKinney for his essay, "The Disappeared," at the March meeting.
Congratulations to Lee Lyons for winning a signed copy of fellow member, Bren McClain's new book, "One Good Mama Bone."  Lee's short story entry, "The Last Song" was chosen from among 5 anonymous entries in the First Draft Society's March Challenge. Lee's winning essay will be featured in the FDS books, "Inklings" (summer)  and "Wing Makers" (this fall).  It will also be included in the FWG 2018 Yearbook.
